Marios Chalaris, an accomplished naval architect, marine engineer, and sustainability advocate, has been appointed as the European Union Delegate for Energy and Environment at the Y7 Summit. At just 25, Marios brings a wealth of expertise in the maritime industry and alternative energy options, as nuclear energy to this critical role, where he will help shape discussions on global energy policy and environmental sustainability.  

A native of Athens, Greece, Marios holds a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of West Attica. His academic career is marked by excellence and a passion for innovation. Notably, he successfully negotiated with government evaluators to upgrade his university’s degree program, benefiting future generations of students. His research focuses on sustainable fuel solutions, with his thesis, “Economic and Technical Analysis of Ammonia as a Marine Fuel in Bulk Carriers,” widely recognized for its relevance in addressing global shipping’s environmental challenges.  

Professionally, Marios serves as a Shipbroker, Business Development Executive, and Naval Architect at P&P Marine Consultants, where he specializes in brokering, consulting, and managing complex negotiations. His innovative work extends into the nuclear energy sector, where he is a key member of the M-48 Panel for Nuclear Propulsion and co-founder of the Greek Section of the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC). He is also actively involved through his work in  addressing the risks associated with the adoption of the first compact Fusion reactor on board ships.

Marios’s leadership credentials are equally impressive. As a Partnerships Officer at Young European Leadership (YEL) and the former President of the Student Steering Committee for the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), he has played a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among young professionals and industry leaders. His contributions to the field have earned him numerous accolades, including first-place finishes in international competitions and scholarships for his academic and professional achievements.  

Beyond his professional life, Marios is an accomplished water polo athlete, having won eight national championships in Greece.. His love for adventure and dedication to teamwork mirror his approach to global challenges: resilient, innovative, and collaborative.  

As the EU Delegate for Energy and Environment, Marios Chalaris is committed to driving meaningful change. He envisions a future where innovation, particularly in nuclear energy, plays a central role in addressing the dual challenges of energy security and environmental protection. His expertise and forward-thinking approach will undoubtedly enrich the Y7 negotiations, positioning the EU as a leader in sustainable development and climate action.
